FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Handmade, etched jewelry from our studio in Milltown, Montana. Here are answers to the questions we hear most.
About our jewelry
Where is Daphne Lorna jewelry made?
Every Daphne Lorna piece begins in our studio in Milltown, Montana, just outside Missoula. We etch some designs ourselves, and others are laser engraved by a local partner in Missoula. Back in the studio, we add texture by hand with a hammer or bur, then send each piece to a professional plater for its final matte silver or antique brass finish. Daphne Lorna is run by two sisters, Daphne and Cindy, and our designs come from the wildlife, rivers, mountains and wildflowers of the West.
What is your jewelry made of?
Each piece starts as solid brass. Designs are etched in our studio with our acid-free process or laser engraved, then textured by hand and plated in matte silver or antique brass. All of our pieces are lead-free, nickel-free and cadmium-free.
What's the difference between matte silver and antique brass?
Matte silver: each etched piece is electroplated with 500 microinches of sterling silver, then lightly oxidized and sealed. Most silver plate is only 10 to 20 microinches, so ours is at least 25 times thicker, which makes it very durable.
Antique brass: each etched piece is darkened with an oxidizer, then polished back so the details stand out, and finished with a light lacquer. Learn more about our finishes.
Are your earrings good for sensitive ears?
Yes. Our jewelry is nickel-free, and every earwire is either sterling silver (on matte silver earrings) or 14k gold filled (on antique brass earrings).
How do I care for my jewelry?
Store it in a cool, dry, airtight bag or box, or in the packaging it came in. To clean it, wipe it with a soft cloth or a silver polishing cloth, or wash gently with mild soap and dry it well.
Can I wear my jewelry in the pool or hot tub?
We recommend not wearing your jewelry in pools, hot tubs or hot springs. If you do, just rinse it with fresh water afterward and pat it dry.
Sizing
How do your adjustable rings fit?
Our adjustable rings gently open or close to fit a range of sizes. Each product page lists the size range for that ring. Wider rings fit a narrower range of sizes than skinny rings. Not sure of your size? Print our ring size chart.
Will a cuff bracelet fit me?
Our cuffs can be gently opened or squeezed for a custom fit, and many styles come in both a women's length (5.75") and a men's length (6.25"). Check the product page for the sizes each cuff comes in.
How long are your necklaces?
Chain and cord options vary by design and are listed on each product page. Many of our necklaces come on an adjustable chain, and many are also available on a longer cord.
